Thornit has been manufactured and distributed by the same family for four generations. This amazing, over 100-year-old formula is made up of ingredients that are carefully balanced to help battle ear mites.
The main ingredient is Iodoform, which has a distinctive medicated smell that helps discourage mites. Boric is also one of the ingredients that acts as an effective antiseptic to help with the damage that may be caused by the animal’s constant scratching. Zinc Oxide is also added as a drying and curing agent that helps irritation and to stop the itch cycle.
All of the balanced ingredients of Thornit are mixed together and ground down to a powder as finely as possible to help you with easy administration.
How to tell if your pet has mites

EARS
Symptoms
The more usual forms are brownish-waxy, smelly scabs inside the ears. These are caused by the mites chewing the ear. The scabs can be dry or weep slightly causing an unpleasant smell. The other type is much more offensive and smells of gangrene while discharging globs of puss.
In both cases the symptoms are scratching, head shaking, rubbing of ears on the floor and general distress. There can be red sores, inflammation and blood clots caused by constant scratching. The standard treatment of drops and antibiotics provided by vets gives only temporary relief.

If you feel your pet has mites, do NOT Clean out the ears and do not remove the wax before you dust the ear with Thornit as under normal circumstances, powder should not be put into the ears and the wax acts as a cork.
Treatment
Apply a pinch of powder around the ear hole, cup your hand around the base of the ear and massage in a cirular motion. Apply twice a day and continue for 1-5 DAYS. Immediate relief comes with the first dose if your pet has mites. When the wax starts to come out, clean only what your can see.

If you have a breed that requires ear hair plucking, dust with thornit and the hair comes away more easily.

DUST WEEKLY TO PREVENT REINFESTATION.
Mites are often picked up in the grass and are dropped by foxes. These tiny mites can cause severe itching in the ears, feet and around your pets bottom when they move around! If left untreated, mites can cause other problems such as ear infections as a result of your pet scratching with dirty claws. Thornit powder can also help protect your pet against mites with a weekly treatment. Don't forget that a little Thornit goes a LONG way.

The Thornit that we supply was originally formulated by Dr Watchman, a dedicated veterinary researcher and practitioner but was shelved and forgotten about by his profession when antibiotics came in. The original formula was rediscovered by Miss P Bett over 100 years ago and has been produced by her family now for 4 generations. THERE ARE NO ANTIBIOTICS IN THORNIT.

PAWS
Symptoms & Treatment
Mites can get between the toes, causing your pet to lick constantly and nibble into their paws making them extremely sore.
Put a little bit of Thornit into a clear plastic bag, put your dog's paw into the bag and shake. Work the Thornit between the toes, under the pads and a little way up the leg using a small soft brush.
ANUS
Symptoms & Treatment
If your pet is dragging its bottom on the floor and it's not a gland problem, it could be mites breeding under the tail. Just apply a tiny amount of Thornit using a small soft brush around the bottom.
ALL OVER INTENSE BODY SCRATCHING
Symptoms & Treatment
An Australian vet has isolated a mite that transfers itself into the scurf on the body. The mite is extremely tiny and vets can find nothing wrong, even with skin scrapings, give the dog a clean bill of health. Shampooing is useless. Simply dust Thornit lightly onto the skin and for dogs with longer coats, just part the hair with a comb and feed a trickle onto the skin.
